We wrap up July, recap an amazing March, share some pragmatism, do some math, and tell you what's ahead for August.

The monthly Donation Report, in which we wrap up July, recap an amazing March, share some pragmatism, do some math, and tell you what's ahead for August.

In July, our customers and guests of The Phoenix donated a total of $20,361 for the fire victims. As promised, we matched the first $2,500 donated, as did The Phoenix. So, we raised a total of $25,361. Of those funds, we have already distributed $7,500 to the Lions Club and $5,500 directly to families who were impacted by the fire. We still have $12,361 left to give and we will be working with the Lions Club to determine the most effective means of distributing those funds to the fire victims. As always, we will keep you updated.

In March 2016 we raised money for an EKG machine for the polyclinic. Great news: the machine was delivered and installed last month! You can read about it in the San Pedro Sun and see their lovely photo that we borrowed for this post: http://goo.gl/vmXVK6

As an island pragmatist said of the EKG news: there's never been a better time to have a heart attack in San Pedro.

Because we believe in transparency and accountability, we want to review the math for that EKG machine. Our customers donated $2,896, which we matched 100%. Guests of The Phoenix donated $117, which The Phoenix matched. So, in total, we raised $6,024 for the EKG machine. The machine cost $3,679.10 plus $476.76 for customs fee, taxes, port fees, and delivery. So, in total we spent $4,146.86, which means we have $1,877.14 left over and we plan to work with the polyclinic to use that money to buy more supplies and equipment for the clinic. As always, we will keep you updated.

In August, we are raising money to support San Pedro Kids Club, which is a new after school program that is starting in October here on the island. The program will run from Monday-Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30pm at the old football field. All students from Standard 1 through 4th Form are eligible to register for futbol, softball, volleyball, or arts and crafts. We will match the first $2,000 donated, as will The Phoenix. The program is being organized by the indefatigable Brittney ODaniel and we look forward to supporting her efforts to make this much needed kids program a success. Please help us help them.

As always, you can read about all of our monthly donation efforts here: bluewatergrillbelize.com/community. Thanks to all of our great customers who help us make a difference in San Pedro!
